This putter is in my bag which is a result of playing in the Champions Tour Siebel Classic Pro-Am with Frank Connor. He is the only athlete to have competed in the US Open Championship in both golf and tennis. I admire him for not only having the courage to pursue golf after playing competitive tennis, but also that he failed 4 times at Q-school and managed to earn a PGA Tour card on his 5th attempt. He had an intimidating stare especially when he would fall into a trance over every single shot but between shots, he was a generous man who shared encouraging words and inspiring stories.
The next day, I decided to catch up to Frank on the turn. After his putt on the 9th green, he noticed me standing by the green and walked over and said he had something for me. As we walked to the 10th tee box, I noticed him talking to his caddie and then suddenly, his caddie ran towards the parking lot while Frank teed off. His caddie returned with an Odyssey White Hot #6 putter. Frank presented it to me explaining that the putter length and fit will be just right for me. It was the beginning of understanding the importance of putter length, weight and construction and how it plays a big part in the art of putting.
I followed him the rest of the way with the putter in hand, forever grateful for taking the time in the middle of a tournament round to share such a thoughtful gift.
